SWHL Stars of the Month

By Phil Heilman

The SWHL this year is doing the 3 Stars of the Month, aiming to recognize outstanding performances in the league and highlight great talent and unsung heroes. The First Star each month will receive a $30 Tim Hortons card.

Third Star: Rory Gregoire, Wilkie Outlaws. The former Battlefords North Star has been on an absolute tear to start the year. He leads the league in goals (11), highlighted by two hattricks already, and points (17). He is also 10th in assists. Rory has had a point in every game thus far, scoring in all but one game.

Second Star: Johnathon Redlich, Biggar Nationals. The Kindersley Jr Klippers legend and seasoned veteran has been firing on all cylinders, helping lead a surprising Nats squad in goals (8) and points (15). Redlich also is third in the league points standings. He is also second in team assists (7) and has had multi point games in all but one game.

First Star: Brett Matlock, Biggar Nationals. The goaltender impersonating a sheet of plywood to start the year for the Nats has been outstanding. On the stat sheet, a 3-3 record with a 2.98 GAA, good for fourth in the league ranked in goaltenders who have played 3 games or more. He also has a sparking .926 save percentage which is second in the league. On the ice, He’s been a huge part of wins against the Kindersley Sr Klipper and the Edam 3 stars, and almost beating an, albeit shorthanded, Wilkie Outlaws squad that peppered him with 76 shots. 76 shots!

Honourable Mentions: Brett Boehm, Wilkie Outlaws and Carson Pickett, Macklin Mohawks.
